ACCESSIBLE CINEMA

Closed Captions and Audio Description

Rich Text

For our hearing and vision impaired guests, Dendy offers accessible cinema so you can enjoy the entire cinematic experience.

Closed Captions (CC)

Captions reproduce a soundtrack in text format. Dendy Cinemas offers the USL Closed Captioning System in select auditoriums to enhance the hearing impaired cinema patron’s movie-going experience.

Captions are delivered via infrared energy to a wireless device with a private display, so only you can see the captions. The text is green on a black LED screen. The device is attached to a flexible arm with a base that fits into the theatre seat cup holder, and can be flexibly positioned in front of you. The unit can be used in any seat in the cinema auditorium.

Movie session times that offer Closed Caption capability are tagged with ‘CC’ after the session time.

Captions are delivered via a personal device, with a high contrast display and privacy screen, so only you can see the captions. This means you can sit in any seat in the cinema.

Please see staff at the box office to collect the equipment and please note the equipment is subject to availability and you may be asked to leave a form of ID to ensure the safe return of the equipment. If you need any assistance with the set-up and to connect to the Closed Caption system please ask a Dendy Cinemas team member and they will be happy to help.

Audio Description (AD)

Audio Description (AD) is a secondary narration to the soundtrack for visually impaired patrons, and describes visual elements such as scenes, settings, actions and costumes.

In select auditoriums Dendy Cinemas offers the USL Two channel IR headphones for HI (hearing impaired) and VI-N (visually impaired narrative).  Audio is delivered to these headsets via infrared (IR) technology.

The left side of the headset provides an amplified version of the films soundtrack to support patrons with difficulty hearing, and the right side provides the secondary narration to the soundtrack for visually impaired.

Both tracks can be used together, or separately if desired. The user can adjust the volume controls on both the left and right side of the headset as desired to achieve a comfortable listening level.

Movie session times that offer Audio Description capability are tagged with ‘AD’ after the session time.

Please see a Dendy Team Member to collect the equipment and you may be asked to leave a form of ID to ensure its safe return at the end of the film. If you need any assistance with the set-up and use of the equipment, please ask a Dendy team member and they will be happy to help.
