Celebrate the rich histories of the Czech Republic and Slovakia as the Czech and Slovak Film Festival (C&SFF) arrives in Sydney, kicking off a five-day festival featuring an eclectic line-up of great films including dramas, thrillers, romances, comedies and documentaries. Many of these are Australian premieres that have never been shown here before. The generally challenging past year we've all experienced is reflected in the choice of topics by film producers and the more reflective mood of the films released in 2023.
However, the popular
quirky shorts that have become part and parcel of the festival over the years,
whether animations, fictions, or documentaries, will once again complement and
lighten the main feature films. Although these are mostly works by graduates of
film faculties, many of them are highly regarded on the international scene,
following in the steps of the famous Czech animation school of Jiří Trnka,
Karel Zeman and many others.
