Welcome to Babel – Q&A Preview Screening

Tuesday November 12 @ 6:30pm & 7:00pm. EXTRA SESSION ADDED DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND!

Followed by a fascinating Q&A session with Chinese-Australian artist Jiawei Shen, director James Bradley and producer Graeme Isaacs.

Hear from renowned Chinese-Australian artist Jiawei Shen, director James Bradley and producer Graeme Isaacs after an early preview of the award-winning documentary.

Determined and obsessive, Jiawei Shen says his latest artwork gives meaning to his whole life. This engrossing documentary follows the former Red Guard, still famous in China for painting one of the most iconic images of the Cultural Revolution, “Standing Guard For The Great Motherland”, as he creates his new masterpiece: a fantastic, towering monument to the bloody history of Communism.  As he works, he and his artist wife Lan Wang share their story, from growing up in Mao’s China and surviving the Cultural Revolution to emigrating to Australia where Jiawei now stands as one of the most important figures in the art world. Putting an intimate and human face to the story of their generation in China, WELCOME TO BABEL asks whether the present can learn from the past.
